Did You Know It Was National Sugar Cookie Day?

This evening, in the midst of a pile of laundry, trying to get all the necessary clothes for Scout camp clean, my husband walks up to me and announces, “Today is National Sugar Cookie Day…did you know that?”

Well that’s a fine how-do-you-do!  I looked it up and he wasn’t pulling my leg…it is National Sugar Cookie Day!  Who in their right mind would pick a hot summer day for this particular holiday?  Obviously someone who has air-conditioning!  I have been known to be an occasional over-achiever, but there is no way I am going to swing making cookies that need to be chilled before rolling and then cut, baked, cooled and then frosted (or sugared) before it is no longer July 9th, so what’s the point of stressing over it.  But in honor of the day, I am re-posting some of our previous adventures in sugar cookie production.

For Valentine’s Day…

For Halloween…

Can you tell that Halloween is one of our favorite holidays?

And for Christmas…

In case this gets you to thinking “What other fine National Holidays might I be in danger of missing”, consider visiting this website of Bizarre and Unique Holidays, where you will find that already in the month of July you have missed:

July 2 – I Forgot Day…duh!

July 3 – Build A Scarecrow Day, which is also Compliment Your Mirror Day, Disobedience Day and Stay Out of the Sun Day

July 5 – Work-a-holics Day

July 6 – National Fried Chicken Day (not a holiday for the chickens)

July 7 – Chocolate Day and National Strawberry Sundae Day

July 8 – Video Games Day

But you have time to still celebrate – or refrain from/ignore:

July 10 – Teddy Bear Picnic Day

July 11 – Cheer Up the Lonely Day

July 12 – Pecan Pie Day

July 13 – Barbershop Music Appreciation Day, Embrace You Geekness Day, and Fool’s Paradise Day

Which leads to:

July 14 – Bastille Day, Pandemonium Day and National Nude Day…I wonder which of these came first or inspired the others?

Please go check out the missing days of this month because it goes on, and on, and on…

I think I will find cause to celebrate on these upcoming dates in July: the 11th, 12th, 15th, 17th, 19th, 21st, 23rd, 24th, 26th, 28th, 29th, and 30th.  You can go check them out to see how I celebrate.  What about you?

I wonder what August will bring?  Have fun however you celebrate – the point is to celebrate!
